  • OX accounts vs system accounts

I know that this is going to sound like a dumb question, but I'm new to this so apologies in advance.

I have just installed Ox 6.6 on my Centos 5.2 box by following the quick install guide at http://www.open-xchange.com/wiki/ind...de_for_CentOS5

The server already had dovecot installed and served email to users with system accounts in /etc/passwd. The concept of OX user account versus linux system account is confusing me. I used the createuser script to create an OX user and he can log into the web interface. But this doesn't create a system account so I don't understand how dovecot can serve any email to it. Do I need to go in and create a system account that matches the username and password of the one I created with createuser?

Open-Xchange does not create system accounts, nor does it create imap accounts.

You have to create them on your own.
