  • different OX and Imap password

    Hi,
our customers and also myself would like to change their OX password without changing the imap password, too. Is it possible, to split this up and enter a specific imap password anywhere, as it is also possible with the imap login name?
At the moment it is not really possible to change the login password, because of the Webmail-Connection.

    Regards,

    Hi Franz,

using separate passwords for the OX account and the primary E-Mail account is not possible. The users password entered at the login is handed through to the IMAP server. The login name can vary, but the password needs to be the same. Is there no way of changing the mail password too?

    Greetings

Sure, it is possible to change the email password, but it is registered in other programs like thunderbird, Outlook ..., too. Some persons are working with more than one PC and PDA, so they have to change this on every PC they use.
What is the reason for this? It doesn't make any sense in my opinion? Also Version 5 had the ability to have different passwords for email and login.

Is it possible to use more than one E-Mail account with imap? So we could use the second Mail-Account as the main account?

      Regards,
      Franz

Typically passwords are changed because of policies or for personal security reasons. So if a password gets changed at one place it might also be compromised for another application. The technical reason is, that we don't want to store any password as plain text anywhere. Surely there are techniques like master keys that decrypt a password, but those have not been implemented at the time we started with OX6. Might be that we're gonna change it sometime, you're free to open a feature request at bugzilla.

Yep that's possible with OX 6.10 and later. Multiple mail accounts can be configured through the normal user interface.
