A very quick answer is that there is a free Community version but the frontend code of Open-Xchange (no matter which edition) is provided under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License.
That means you cannot commercially provide the software without a special agreement with Open-Xchange.

i am new to the open-xchange.
from what i can see, the ox-hosting edition is free.
however, can i sell email service based on the ox-hosting edition for free or do i have to buy a license?

would be great if anyone can post a detailed-comparison link for different editions.
