  • NNTP Server for OX

    Hello,

currently I'm writing a new NNTP-Server for the old version.

As I recognized the new one, I think I have to stop this project and wait until the official Forum plug in is available.

Well, it is easy to change it to the new DB layout of course

Is this something for the product which can be integrated?

The NNTP-Server should be RFC compliant

    1) Please note that we are not going to work on the new forum before end of 2007.

    2) Don't use the database directly: The database scheme might change which requires you to fix your software. And we (or someone else) might replace the database some day which again requires you to fix it. To avoid both issues, please use the interfaces. Their purpose it to provide a stable layer above all the core changes that might come some day.

    3) Of course, this is something that can be integrated.

I know the end date, that's why I stopped the development and started this poll.

Well, the access to the DB or data is in one class which can either use direct SQL access or some kind of API provided by OX. ;-)

What about the design of the forum?

Will it be a new development or a porting project from the old version?

When you develop a new one it would be nice to have some specific requirements available like "Display name" "NNTP-Name" for the forum.
The Message-ID as an identifier and Cross-Posting functionality and so on.
Or a place where this can be implemented with a patch.
