Hi,

this does seem like a installer failure. The installation script checks if a specific directory exists after installing every dependency. In this case the detection fails. What output gives a "java -version"?

The program 'java' can be found in the following packages:
* cacao
* j2re1.4
* kaffe
* jamvm
* java-gcj-compat
* gij-4.1
* gij-4.2
* sablevm
Try: apt-get install <selected package>

Which is bullshit... I know java is installed. I have been playing with getting this running for a couple days though. I could have some stray configs.

Hi,

yes, the "java" executable is provided by several packages. But to compile properly the sun java jdk package is required. Things like gcj or other java vm implementations may not work correctly.

Thanks for both of your help. I'm still a bit lost. Forgive my ignorance. I'll try to lay out what I'm doing.

which java responds with:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03//bin/java

env responds with

It looks like I have some conflicting info. I do have both Java 5 and 6 installed. I feel like such a newb but I can't find any firm info on how or where I'm supposed to specify my java path and what will make java just go.

Does any of that help?

Try to set the Path (just for testing) to JAVA 5 only (all into one line):

export PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.13//bin

Another question (i'm not sure about): Is it ok to have these double-slashes as in usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03//bin in your PATH? Never seen this before...

So... I'm getting somewhere.... this looks "right" as far as I can tell.... but still the hyperion installer isn't working. Thoughts? It exits with the same error as above.

well, you could go to the installers sourcecode and remove the check for java.

Well... It ran though everything and definatly failed on java. Where would I find a log of the actions it took.

I'm pretty sure it said my JAVA_HOME was not set correctly and that the install failed.

My JAVA_HOME was set to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.13/bin Which I just realized it should be /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.13/. So I set that an ran the process again. We'll see how it goes.

However, I don't have a /usr/bin/java... Should I make a symbolic link (or something) from /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.13/bin/java to /usr/bin/java. Any thoughts on that issue? Again, I think I'm super close. thanks for you help.

In my case (debian etch) i have /usr/bin/java, and it is a link. It links to /etc/alternatives/java, which is also a link to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java. In openSUSE 10.3 there are axactly the same links. So i believe making a link couldnt be a mad idea

So the installer ran through with a whole bunch of "BUILD SUCCESSFUL"s. Which is awesome.

However, at the end it appears to be hanging on "admindaemon startup still in progress, waiting..." it's been doing that for a good 5 minutes. I don't think it's going to finnish. Any thoughts on that? Should I start a new thread? You guys are great.
