Hi,
documents consist of two components: metadata and raw data.
The metadata (filename, comments, size, position at the filestore etc.) is stored at the database, the raw data is stored at the hard drive for example at /var/opt/filestore. Accessing the raw data won't give you any metadata, it's always required to get information from the database and then accessing the raw data.

Hi,
copying data from A to B will not work, like you mentioned because there were severe database structure and logical changes. We're currently evaluating different types of migrations. For some modules (like contacts) a migration is relatively simple by reading ldap and using HTTP API to insert - there was a posting how to do it somewhere at the forum.
