avahi

What is this avahi user and group for? It seems to be part of the open-exchange install but is not documented anywhere.

It starts up as a daemon very early in the startup process.

Installed with OX

Avahi got installed with ox. What for? With Apache?

Under Debian it's comming with SUN's JDK from non-free Repository
I think it's the same with RHEL, Scientific Linux or other RHEL compatible
You can use chkconfig to disable it from Runlevel. Under RHEL and the RHEL Clone's are this the default way. Under Debian chkconfig is optinal available
